Fall is my favourite time of year, not including Halloween!

I love that just in-between period of bright sunshine against rusty reds and earthy brown colours but with slightly cooler weather. It’s the layering season! For inside the home and outdoors.

But decor that involves ghosts, witches, and pumpkins? I can’t do it, maybe it’s because I’m a scaredy cat and can’t deal with horror movies. Pumpkins can stay (who can resist a pumpkin patch in the Autumn?) Here are some ideas to get your home into the warm cozy fall era…

How To Decorate For Fall Not Halloween

1. Dried Flowers

dried-hydrangeas

Decorating the home with dried flowers is one of my favourite ways to get my home in step with Fall. I have dried hydrangeas that have been bleached by the sun, but still look beautiful bunched together in a little vase. Red dried hydrangeas will give a rustic Autumn feel and pops of color.

Other fall favourites for dried flowers include; strawflowers, bunny tails, amaranth, baby’s breath, and lunaria. Cotton stems are also perfect for the fall season.

2. Wooden Decor Accents

Adding a few more wooden accents into your space makes sense for this season. Wooden beads and other small wood accents to decorate the table tops. The texture and the color of the wood accents are up to you.

For a minimal and modern look go with light woods and a smooth finish. For a more rustic feel darker finishes with bumpy and knobby textures. Adding woven baskets and trays is another way to bring in different textures into your space.

3. Natural Accents

Make the most of the nature outside and around you. See what you can find from outside, pinecones in a bowl make a lovely display. You can use acorns in the same way or use them for a creative DIY acorn garland. Colourful feathers can also be incorporated into your decor.

4. Lanterns & Candles

Candles are the ultimate pieces to bring in the cozy Fall factor. Even if you use them purely for decoration without lighting them. Place a couple of chunky candles on your coffee table, or tall tapered candles in holders on your bookshelves. Scented candles are a bonus too.

Layering lanterns big and small inside and outside is a great look for Autumn. Lanterns can be open, glass or metal depending on the look you’re going for.

5. Fall Wreaths

You can buy or make a seasonal wreath to welcome in the fall season. It can have natural elements on it, to tie in with the season like pine cones.

Or the wreath can made up of flowers and colours to represent the season. Think oranges, golden yellows, deep pinks, rustic reds, and earthy browns. You can still do a minimalist look if that’s your kind of style.

6. Pumpkin Accents

I’m not against using pumpkins for decorating in the Fall. We don’t have to go overboard and use them everywhere.

And there are lots of different ways you can incorporate pumpkins into your fall decor. It doesn’t have to be actual pumpkins. Some cute home accents subtly incorporate pumpkins into their design. Or you can get crafty and decorate a few pumpkins or gourds for display.

7. Throw Blankets

The Fall season means it’s time to get cozy at home. So bring out the chunky knit blankets and the faux fur throws for lounging on the sofa. Bringing in different textures in your home always keeps your space looking interesting. And it’s up to you if you’d like to keep the colors neutral or add warm color pops here and there.
