Start Your Blog
If you’ve read my about page you’ll know the back story of why I started this blog. This page will give you the best resources for starting your own blog.
Blogging is a great way to get started with making money from an online business. It can be a side income or a full-time career it just depends on how much you want to put into it.
Whether you use your blog to further your own business or as extra on your resume, it’s a win-win either way. Everyone should have a little online space of their own in my opinion.
The first bit of money I made from blogging was 4p. For the whole month. This was in the Google Adsense days of my blog.
I know it may seem silly but I was super excited and amazed that it had made any money at all. Because at this time I was going months without posting anything and had no idea about having an actual strategy behind it. And yet here I was making money from my blog. You have to celebrate the small and even the tiny wins…
But that 4p has now grown into 4 figures a month.
And that’s just from two revenue streams. The majority of the money it makes comes from the ads on my site and affiliate links. With the opportunity to expand out in other areas of other income revenues. Which means there’s no cap on how much you can earn. And if I can do it, you can do it too!
My Best Blogging Resources
These are the best plugins and apps that I’m currently using or have used to run my blog today that I recommend for you.
WordPress
Any blogger who wants to start and own their own site needs to be on WordPress.org. This is a self-hosted platform where you will need hosting and is different from WordPress.com or any of the other hosted sites like Wix, Blogger, and the rest of them.
WordPress.org only!
BlueHost
When you’re just starting your blog BlueHost is the most affordable hosting platform to use. I’ve used a few hosting providers and this is the best one to start with, as they’ve got good customer service and it’s the least expensive.
GoDaddy
You need a domain name for your blog and GoDaddy is where I purchased my domain name from. Very affordable and I auto-renew my domain name every couple of years.
Restored 316
The Kadenence Theme is a great basis to start with your blog, it’s fast and customizable and it’s a free plugin you download off WordPress for your site.
Lauren at Restored 316 offer amazing web Kadence templates to get your blog looking great so you don’t have to worry about being a web designer.
ConvertKit
Email is one of the best ways of growing your audience from your blog. And I’ve been with ConvertKit for years. It’s easy to use and they are so helpful if you have any questions or when updates need to be made.
Legal Templates
Online businesses need legal protection too. And Self Guru Amria is the go-to for keeping your blog’s legal pages up to scratch. The starter legal bundle is the best. She has other templates available or you can just get the one-off legal templates.
Canva
I use Canva for almost everything in design. From my design mood boards, my feature images on my blog, and my Pinterest profile. Everywhere! It’s easy to use and has lots of design templates both with the free version or Canva Pro.
