There’s a reason why Scandinavian interior design is so popular. It’s simple, understated but beautiful and practical at the same time. Behind this beautiful forest green exterior is the Norwegian home of designer Vibeke Sommerbakk.
Vibeke’s northern haven is situated by the coast just above the Arctic Circle, surrounded by the amazing scenery of Norway’s nature. Vibeke has lived in her home for 5 years and spent that time turning it to a cozy and comfortable home for herself and her family.
Her main challenge making the most of a tall home with a small layout. So smart and creative solutions were a big focus of achieving the right balance between beautiful and functional for herself and her family. Here is a tour through Vibeke’s lovely Norwegian home.
The Living Room

Vibeke has made the most of the small living room area. Maximizing it’s space to it’s full potential with a few living room tricks. One by using a sectional sofa, a big rug and open and off the floor furniture. A full height wall storage system is used to keep the room clutter free, leaving space for essentials and beautiful home decor only.
Neutral tones for the walls and curtains are used while the wood topped coffee table adds warmth in to the space.
This cane and wicker chair serves as an extra seat without it taking up too much space.
A little breakfast nook has been carved into the corner and decorated with a mixed media gallery wall. Lots of interest has been injected into the breakfast nook with picture frames, plants and mini objects. The mirrored tiles on the back wall help it seem larger.
Bedroom

Simple materials can make the best furniture pieces. Vibeke has used a textured chipboard as a bed headboard. The contrast of the colour and design of the panelled walls of the bedroom look great.
I love how the bed is styled with simple linens. A tray and vase with cotton stalks finish off the look.
Bathroom

The bathroom is beautiful. It has a modern and understated style to it thanks to the wall and floor finishes. Which is actually vinyl with concrete look believe it or not! Woods, browns and gold tones are woven throughout the design scheme. Along with a black accent which adds a touch of modern elegance.
Greenery, dried bunny tails and lanterns next to the shower all add to the design.

Garden
The garden has been shown just as much love and attention as the inside of Vibeke’s home. With a canopy over a decked seating area which is perfect for outdoor living during the warmer months.
A gorgeous falling chandelier really transforms the outdoor space along with the surrounding plants.
